JOE WEBB
19th October - JCG Music Hall
Joe Webb, often described as one of the UK's most captivating young pianists, is set to make his European debut with his trio.
With a performance CV that includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Wynton Marsalis and Jamie Cullum, Joe is now taking his own music on the road.
Inspired by performances together serving as the house band at a prominent London venue for over two years, Joe began composing music specifically tailored to double bassist Will Sach and drummer Sam Jesson.
Webb’s ability to seamlessly intertwine the raw energy of 90’s guitar bands, his love for football, and his deep-rooted connection to the Jazz piano tradition, will no doubt captivate audiences and create an excitement from global audiences. Notably, Joe has recently inked a record deal with the esteemed jazz record label "Edition Records," an exciting development that will see him release new music alongside his trio in 2024.
Joe Webb, is the pianist of the moment, the very embodiment of jazz’s current zeitgeist.
An avant-garde virtuoso possessed of relentless exuberance, Webb stands on the brink of revitalising the blend of traditional and modern Jazz piano with his unparalleled prowess and audacious, almost rockstar-esque swagger.
Influenced by jazz titans such as Fats Waller, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson and Teddy Wilson, Webb felt an epiphany that propelled him on a path less trodden. An encaunter with stride piano heralded an unforseen trajectory.

ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Rodriguez's passion for music burned brightly despite the numerous restrictions imposed by his country. At a tender age, he faced discouragement from his first teacher, who dismissed him as devoid of talent. Undeterred, Rodriguez's love for the piano persisted, even in the absence of an instrument at home. He resorted to painting piano keys on his parents' dinner table to practice his scales—a testament to his determination and resourcefulness.
Eventually, Alfredo was invited to represent Cuba at the Montreux Jazz Festival, where he impressed Quincy Jones. Jones saw the immense talent in Rodriguez and extended an invitation to work together in the U.S. However, pursuing this opportunity meant leaving his family behind and embarking on a journey that would require relinquishing his Cuban citizenship.
Since then, Rodriguez has achieved remarkable milestones. He has graced prestigious stages worldwide and earned a Grammy® nomination for his track "Guantanamera" from the album The Invasion Parade. Additionally, he became the first non-Chinese artist to collaborate on the English version of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo theme song, working alongside esteemed musicians such as Tan Dun, Siedah Garrett, and Quincy Jones.
Beyond his accomplishments, Rodriguez's ability to "play stories" on the keys allows him to connect with his listeners on a deeply personal level. His albums, including The Invasion Parade, Tocororo, and Duologue, reflect his memories of Cuba, his experiences as an immigrant, and his journey of self-discovery through music. He’s been featured by All Things Considered, Downbeat, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Wall Street Journal among many others, and performed for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert.
Rodriguez continues to share his music along with his impactful message of perseverance and cross culturalization on an international tour, while sharing a variety of viral social media videos in which he plays well-known compositions in a Cuban timba style.

From a jazz musician about jazz.
Where sound becomes a sacred connection.
In the world of jazz, there’s a truth that runs deep—people have poured their hearts into this music, even given their lives for it. It’s a reality that strikes a chord with me as a jazz player.
But what captivates me most isn’t just the music itself; it’s the raw power of sound that weaves through every note and beat.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the enigmatic world of jazz. It’s a genre that’s seen legends rise and fall, and it carries the weight of history and struggle. Yet, at its core, jazz is a celebration of sound.
You see, for a jazz musician, it’s not merely about playing notes or following a melody.
It’s about diving headfirst into the abyss of sound and emotion, about letting the music take over and transport both the musician and the listener to another realm.
Jazz isn’t just a genre; it’s a living, breathing entity that pulses with life.
It’s an art form that’s been nurtured by countless hands and hearts over the years. Some have paid the ultimate price for it, leaving behind a legacy that reverberates through time.
